The Horn Workshop
Brass and Woodwind Repair Technician

About Us
The Horn Workshop was founded by Iain Howick, a highly experienced brass and woodwind technician with a deep passion for music and craftsmanship.
Iain’s journey with brass instruments began in the Salvation Army, where his musical foundation was shaped. He was fortunate to be mentored by renowned trombonist Ron Prussing, whose guidance helped shape Iain’s approach to performance. Iain was later accepted in the Conservatorium High School where he continued learning Trombone from Arthur Hubbard, Greg van der Struck and later focusing on Bass Trombone with Colin Philpott, Bill Reichenbach, Phil Teele and Craig Gosnell.
With over 20 years of professional playing experience, primarily on bass trombone, Iain has performed in a variety of settings—from studio recordings and live performances with John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Mark Vincent, James Morrison, Emma Pask and Anthony Callea to pit orchestras for theatre productions of Love Never Dies, Mary Poppins and Lion King.
His interest in brass repair began during his time at Dickson’s Music, where he trained and eventually became their Brass Technician. With Dickson’s Music closing its doors, Iain continued servicing and repairing brass instruments for a wide range of schools across Sydney, building a strong reputation for quality workmanship and reliable service.
In early 2020, Iain was approached by a music store on the upper north shore to become their Band Instrument Repair Technician. Keen to broaden his expertise, Iain undertook advanced woodwind repair training with Ryan Walker of MusicMedic, allowing him to offer a full range of services for both brass and woodwind instruments.
Now based in Burwood, Iain has established The Horn Workshop, offering dedicated, professional brass and woodwind repairs for musicians, students, and schools across the Inner West and Sydney Metro region.
Whether it's a quick tune-up or a full overhaul, Iain brings decades of hands-on experience, precision, and care to every instrument he works on.
