About Us

The Horn Workshop is owned and operated by Iain Howick, a dedicated band instrument technician with a lifelong passion for music, performance, teaching, and instrument repair.

Iain began his repair career at Dickson's Music, where he developed his skills in brass instrument servicing and repairs, eventually becoming the company's Brass Technician. To further expand his expertise, he undertook specialised woodwind repair training with Ryan Walker at MusicMedic, gaining advanced knowledge in the repair and maintenance of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, and other woodwind instruments.

More recently, Iain joined Turramurra Music as their Band Instrument Technician, providing professional servicing and repairs for school musicians, community bands, teachers, and professional performers throughout Sydney.

Beyond the workshop, Iain has spent many years performing on Bass Trombone with ensembles across Sydney, New South Wales, and Australia. His experience as an active musician gives him a practical understanding of the demands placed on instruments and the importance of reliable performance.

Iain is also a passionate music educator, with more than 25 years of experience teaching low brass instruments and over 10 years of experience conducting school concert bands and stage bands. Working closely with students, parents, teachers, and schools has given him valuable insight into the needs of musicians at every stage of their musical journey.

At The Horn Workshop, every instrument is treated with care, precision, and attention to detail. Whether it's routine maintenance, emergency repairs, dent removal, precision adjustments, or complete overhauls, Iain is committed to delivering high-quality workmanship, honest advice, and fast turnaround times.

The Horn Workshop proudly supports musicians, schools, and community ensembles across Sydney, helping keep instruments performing at their very best for lessons, rehearsals, examinations, and performances.
