Regular servicing helps maintain smooth slide and valve action, reliable performance, and good tone quality while preventing excessive wear and costly repairs. Instruments that see heavy use may benefit from more frequent maintenance.
Q. How long does a General Service take?
A. Turnaround times vary depending on the condition of the instrument and current workshop workload. Most general low brass services can be completed within a few days, while instruments requiring additional repairs, dent removal, slide work, or parts replacement may take longer. We will always provide an estimated completion time when your instrument is assessed.
Q. When is the best time to schedule my service?
A. The best time to schedule a service is before the school term, concert season, examinations, or major performances. Booking during quieter periods is also recommended, as it helps ensure your instrument is in optimal condition, reduces the chance of unexpected issues, and keeps performance consistent throughout the year.
Q. What can I do to help maintain my instrument between services?
A. Regular cleaning and proper storage are the best ways to keep your instrument in good condition between services. After playing, always remove moisture, wipe down the instrument, and store it safely in its case.
Lubricate valves, slides, or moving parts as recommended, and avoid exposing the instrument to extreme heat, cold, or humidity. It’s also important to avoid knocks or pressure on keywork, and to have any early changes in playability checked promptly to prevent larger issues developing.
